Academic and Professional Qualifications and experience required � Bachelor�s Degree in Safety and Health, Environmental Management or related discipline. � Professional certifications Environment Health and Safety such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) are highly desirable. � At least four (4) years relevant work experience in a dynamic environment � Good understanding of the EHS regulations and compliance in Kenya � Experience in conducting EHS research, investigations and recommending solutions needed for change. Key Skills and Competences � Experience working cross functionally and with multidisciplinary teams. � Safety conscious and able to apply methodologies to improve processes. � Self-starter, high energy level with strong interpersonal and communication skills. � Ability to work well under pressure and without supervision in a fast-paced work environment � Good team player with an ability to work in a diverse environment � Demonstrate a high degree of sensitivity, confidentiality when dealing with internal and external customers � Have a high sense of accuracy and attention for detail. � Have good problem analysis and reporting skills � Highest level of personal and professional integrity � High moral standing with impeccable integrity
Position Summary Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, Safety, and Health & Environment Officer will be responsible for ensuring that the Group of Companies workplaces are safe and healthy for employees and stakeholders and that operations are conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. S/he will implement, monitor and report on Safety, health and environment procedures and practices in compliance with the Safety, health and Environment policy and regulatory standards as well as OSHA 2007 amongst other duties and roles as assigned. Key Duties/ Responsibilities ? Ensure the development, review and implementation of safety, health, and environmental systems, policies, procedures and corporate guidelines that comply with legal and corporate standards and that they are integrated throughout the Group of Companies. ? Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures. ? Act as the point of contact between the organization and external regulatory bodies on matters Safety, Health & Environment. ? Ensure staff , visitors and stakeholders comply with safety, health & environment regulations through workplace and site inspection to ensure that company�s safety and health set rules and regulations are adhered to; ? Conduct impromptu and scheduled safety inspections/assessment on the premises and other sites to ensure SOP�S are followed and identify potential hazards; ? Ensure compliance with the safety, health and environment regulatory requirements (OSHA Act 2007, NEMA ,WIBA Act) and other subsidiary rules such as Safety and Health Committee Rules; ? Conducts Health and safety meetings, ensuring site rules are adhered to, provision of site signage and appropriate personal protective equipment is provided to all workers; ? Implement emergency response plans and coordinates emergency management teams of the company including conducting fire drills; ? Conduct regular assessments to identify potential hazards related to safety, health, and environment. Recommend and ensure implementation of appropriate measures to mitigate the identified risks; ? Receive/collect near misses, unsafe incidents and accident reports on a daily basis and/ or as they occur and record them in the incident/accident report register/ Page 2 of 2 tracker. Carry out investigation of accidents and other unsafe occurrences and ensure implementation of corrective action to prevent recurrence of a similar incident. ? Carry out induction trainings to all new employees and visitors on Environment Health and Safety as per the company policy; ? Liaises with the respective Heads of Business units/ Directors and Line Managers to schedule and facilitate awareness creation and training based on safety, health & environment training needs including First aid and Occupational Health and Safety; ? Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant safety, health & Environment legislation and communicate relevant changes to management ? Manage documentation related to SHE activities. ? Prepare reports on occurrences, improvements, audits, and inspections and present them to senior management.
